Maserati Ghibli review, test drive

Maserati’s all set to return to India, and one of its first new cars to go on sale is likely to be the Ghibli S. We take it for a spin.
The dual carriage way twists and fake watches uk for men turns like a strand of wet spaghetti. Just the right width, with plenty of visibility around corners, it is a road that is easy to carry speed over. The scenery going up this section of the Italian Alps is stunning too, which makes the drive all the nicer. Yes, there are a few blind crests and a few corners that tighten suddenly, but otherwise, this road is just right for Maserati’s new Ghibli S.

The Ghibli S is super comfortable in this environment, and effortlessly picks up the pace. A fast, comfortable Grand Tourer in the truest sense of the word, the new S, just like many of the Maseratis of yore, doesn’t need to be worked hard to get up to speed. I’m only adding power lazily with my right foot, but already the torque from the twin turbo V6 is hurling the Ghibli S forward like you wouldn’t believe. The gearbox always seems to have the right gear on hand, and then, every time I put my foot down, I get a nice squeeze in the back. There certainly seems to be more grunt here than the 404bhp seem to suggest; and that’s because the 56kgm of torque comes in nice and early, at a diesel-like 1750rpm. So, every time you put your foot down, it just goes whack.

What’s also nice is that there’s plenty of linearity here. There’s no big hit of torque suddenly coming in, no big spike in power, and that almost makes this engine feel naturally aspirated. Also adding considerably to the appeal of this car is the noise coming out of the quartet of pipes at the rear. Sounding more like a V8 race motor than a turbo-charged V6, there’s a nice howl emitted from the exhaust every time I pull the engine harder. Yes, there is a bit of bass fake watches uk online initially and a bit of rumble too, but this car clearly is more Italian thoroughbred than yank tank. It would be – the engine is built alongside Ferrari’s new-generation twin-turbo V8s in Maranello.

Indian reveals one-off Black Bullet

Indian Motorcycle has officially taken the wraps off a one-off customised motorcycle built

especially to be displayed at Sturgis, South Dakota from July 31-August 8, 2015. The bike will

then head to the Bonneville Salt Flats to find out how quickly it can go.

The motorcycle in question is based on Indian Motorcycle’s Scout, but is completely tricked out

by Jeb Scolman who was given the freedom to construct a motorcycle using the engine from a

Scout. He then built the Black Bullet. In the images, it's evident the Black Bullet resembles speed

seeking motorcycles from the late '50s and early '60s with a bullet-like fairing mounted on the

bike’s forks and the most basic frame structure.

With tight clip-on handle bars and footrests mounted to the rear axle, this results in a very

aggressive riding position with the rider always lying flat on the tank. The front wheel does not

receive any kind of braking mechanism either. This bike receives a custom-made intake

manifold, so the throttle body can be mounted sideways to allow an even tighter engine

packaging.

We'll keep you updated on more news about the Black Bullet.

Volvo considering hybrid Polestar models

The high-performance hybrid Polestar models are likely to use a set-up similar to the T8 twin-engine powertrain

Following the successful acquisition of tuning specialists Polestar on July 14, Volvo has revealed that it is considering developing high-performance hybrid models under the Polestar guise. Polestar had previously partnered with Volvo to develop high-performance cars, with the S60 and V60 Polestars being the newest.

Talking about the future following the acquisition, a company official said that the Volvo planned to sell over a 1,000 units of its Polestar models in the near future, while in the longer run, it would develop high-performance hybrid models utilising Volvo’s new twin-engine technology.

It’s likely that Polestar will adopt a set-up similar to the new T8 twin-engine powertrain, but retune it for a higher cheap replica breitling navitimer watches performance, or use the powertrain in its existing form in new smaller vehicles based on the XC90’s Scalable Product Architecture platform. This means that the first likely candidate could be the new S60, due in 2017.

Volvo has declined to reveal the cost of the acquisition though they will be retaining all Polestar employees, including the company’s motorsport division which will be rebranded, but remain under the control of current boss Christian Dahl.

In India, Volvo is expected to launch the Polestar performance division sometime in 2016 with the S60 and V60 Polestar models.
