2018 Royal Enfield Classic Signals 350 ABS launched at Rs 1.62 lakh

First Royal Enfield in India to offer ABS; costs about Rs 15,000 more than the standard Classic 350; sales start today.

Royal Enfield has launched the new Classic Signals 350 ABS at Rs 1.62 lakh (ex-showroom, Pune). The new motorcycle pays homage to the Indian Air Force and Army and carries a premium of around Rs 15,000 over the standard non-ABS Classic 350. The Classic Signals 350 is also the first Royal Enfield motorcycle on sale in India to be equipped with dual-channel ABS. The bike will be sold through dealerships only, and not online.

This variant of the Classic 350 is available in two matte colours (blue and brown) and both, feature brown-coloured seats. Both bikes also get saddle bags and large windscreens. It also gets a unique serial number painted on the tank in large font. Enhancing its retro appeal are blacked-out elements like the exhaust muffler, engine, rims, handlebar and the headlight bezel. The bike also has a metal Royal Enfield badge on the tank finished in gold and green. While the bikes are being displayed without rear seats, Royal Enfield has said that it will provide them with the motorcycle.

Mechanically, the new Classic Signals 350 remains identical to the standard motorcycle. It’s powered by a 346cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine producing 19.8hp and 28Nm of peak torque. Power is transmitted via a 5-speed gearbox. Also, the Classic Signals 350 features a rear disc brake as opposed to 153mm drum unit as seen on the standard bike.

In related news, the limited-edition Royal Enfield Classic 500 Pegasus went on sale in India last month. It was inspired by the Royal Enfield Flying Flea which was used by British Paratroopers during World War II. The 250 units of the Classic 500 Pegasus edition allotted to India (1,000 units globally) were sold in just 178 seconds, via Royal Enfield’s official website.

Harley-Davidson starts buyback and exchange offers on Softails

The company will offer the entire ex-showroom value of the Street 750/Rod if the bike is less than one year old.

Harley-Davidson India has just announced a buyback offer on their Softail line. The company will pay back the purchase cost of the Street 750 and Street Rod, if one was to buy a new Softail model.

In an unprecedented move, Harley says that it will return the entire ex-showroom amount paid if the bike is not more than 12 months old. Judging by just how impressive the new Softails are, this will be a tempting offer for Street customers. In addition to this, if the Street 750 or Street Rod is between 12-24 months old, one can receive upto 75 percent of the ex-showroom amount paid for the bike.

At present, Harley has six Softail models on sale in India. The most affordable one is the Street Bob (Rs 12.59 lakh) and the most expensive model is the Heritage Classic (Rs 19.71 lakh); all prices, ex-showroom India. The other Softail bikes that sit between the two are the Low Rider, the Fat Bob, the Fat Boy and the Deluxe.

The American motorcycle maker was also recently in the news for the announcement of a radical new product plan that will see a sub-500cc Harley-Davidson for India, an adventure tourer, a Streetfighter and a range of electric bikes.

We've enjoyed every one of the new Harley Softails that we've ridden in India, so far. You can check out the links to the respective reviews below:

2018 Indian Chieftain Elite to launch on August 12

The top-spec Chieftain will feature a bespoke paintjob and be limited to 350 units worldwide.

ndian Motorcycle is about to launch its limited-edition, top-of-the-line Chieftain model on August 12. Called the Chieftain Elite, the bike features a bespoke paint-job that the company claim takes 25 hours to complete. The bike also gets additional equipment like a premium sound system, custom leather seats and more.

To begin with, the new paint on the bike is called Black Hills Silver and features marble accenting. The company claims that no two Chieftain Elites will look the same, thanks to the unique marbling process that goes into this paint. Aside from this unique paint scheme, the bike also features Indian’s Ride Command infotainment system set up with Bluetooth, navigation, and 200W premium audio (the standard Chieftain gets ‘just’ 100W). Other additional equipment includes leather seats with custom stitching and aluminium floorboards.

The Elite also features what the company calls an ‘open fender’. It has a large 19-inch wheel up front – a size seen on every other 2018 Chieftain variant, except the Classic; and has a wheel design similar only to the Chieftain Limited. The Chieftain Elite is powered by the same 1,811cc Thunderstroke 111 V-twin engine seen on many other Indian offerings, but it puts out 161.6Nm at 3,000rpm – 11.6Nm over any other Chieftain model. For braking, the bike uses the same twin 300mm discs at the front and a single 300mm disc at the rear. The suspension and chassis are also the same as other Chieftain variants. This limited model weighs-in with a kerb weight of a massive 388kg.

We believe this model will be considerably more expensive than the standard Chieftain (Rs 32.01 lakh, all prices ex-showroom, India). However, the difference will not be as huge as the Rs 8 lakh gap between the standard Roadmaster (Rs 39.99 lakh) and Roadmaster Elite (Rs 48 lakh) – which is due to the Roadmaster Elite's even more special gold-flake paintjob.
