Next-gen Porsche 911 begins testing.

The new 911, expected in launch in 2018, will come with an updated version of the new turbocharged 3.0-litre engine; to also get a hybrid powertrain.

The latest facelifted Porsche 911 series made its debut at the Frankfurt motor show this year, and now latest spy pictures seen of a test omega replica watches online mule show that the German sportscar maker is already working on the next series of the 911, internally codenamed the 992 series.

The test mule of the new 911 spotted came with wheel arch extensions at the rear, indicating either a wider rear axle or a chassis update that could accommodate a bigger powertrain. The next-gen model will be built on a modified version of the current car's MMB platform and is expected to arrive in late 2018, as per Porsche’s seven-year product cycle. The new car will be the first in this range to receive a hybrid powertrain with the manufacturer likely to combine one or more electric motors to a flat-six engine giving the car an all-wheel drive configuration, with the petrol motors driving the rear axle and the electric motors powering the front wheels.

Earlier in September, Porsche engineers confirmed to our sister publication, Autocar UK that they were working on packaging a hybrid powertrain into the body of the 911 which could explain the need for wheelarch extensions on the test mule.

Porsche is also expected to be considering an all-electric 911 though it is not guaranteed to reach production. Base models of the 911 are expected to use the same 3.0-litre twin-turbo flat-six engine that made its debut in the facelifted 911 Carrera.

But before the next-generation 911 comes to market, the sportscar maker is expected to introduce the new 911 R in time for fakebreitling.co.uk next year's Geneva motor show.

F1 would have disqualified Rossi: Bernie

A back of the grid start for Rossi in the title-deciding Valencia race, saw him losing the championship to Yamaha team-mate Jorge Lorenzo.
Valentino Rossi would have been immediately black-flagged if his Sepang MotoGP clash with Marc Marquez had happened in Formula 1, reckons Bernie Ecclestone.

Rossi was given three penalty points on his licence for taking Marquez out of the Malaysian Grand Prix amid a bitter feud between the two.

Added to a previous penalty point for blocking in San Marino GP qualifying, that triggered a back of the grid start for Rossi in the title-deciding Valencia race, where he lost the championship to Yamaha team-mate Jorge Lorenzo.

The latter was among those arguing Rossi's penalty was insufficient, and Ecclestone believes F1 would have acted more assertively in such a situation.

"Rossi would have been disqualified for sure," Ecclestone told Gazzetta dello Sport.

"Or he would have been shown the black flag."

Other F1 figures were split on Rossi's actions following the Sepang incident.

While Sebastian Vettel was adamant that "Valentino did absolutely the right thing", Felipe Massa said "I am a big fan of Valentino but he made a mistake".

Ecclestone described MotoGP's late-season controversies - which extended beyond the Sepang collision to a row over whether Marquez was helping countryman Lorenzo's title bid despite them being in different teams - as "a warning for F1".

He added: "I'll give you an example: let's suppose Ferrari is en route for the title and Mercedes block them with one of their customer teams, what would happen then?"

Rossi seriously considered an F1 move in the mid-2000s, completing several tests with Ferrari in 2006 before committing his future to motorcycles.

He has also dabbled in sportscars and rallying, and will take on factory Hyundai World Rally Championship driver Thierry Neuville in this weekend's Monza Rally.

Ecclestone believes Rossi was wise not to pursue a mid-career change of discipline and to stay focused on MotoGP.

"In bikes he was at the top as far as importance and earnings are concerned, while in F1 he would have had to start from scratch," he said.

"He did the right thing in not switching."

Mahindra Scorpio automatic to get new six-speed gearbox

After the XUV500, Scorpio next in line for Aisin’s new-gen six-speed automatic transmission in late 2016.
Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has finally launched it long awaited automatic variant of the XUV500 equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission sourced from Japanese supplier Aisin Seiki. The gearbox (code: F6F45) is a new generation torque converter aimed to provide smooth gear shifts with reduced transmission losses. M&M claims the gear ratios (with 2 overdrive gears) in the 6 speed transmission are optimised to deliver best fuel efficiency.

M&M is now planning to equip the Scorpio with the new technology gearbox. At present, the Scorpio uses an old generation auto gearbox unit sourced from Drivetrain Systems International (DSI).

“A transmission similar to the one used in the XUV500 can be adapted in the Mahindra Scorpio in the future,” Hemant Sikka, Executive Vice President & Chief Purchasing Officer, Automotive & Farm Sectors, said. “With Aisin, we have gone for a long term relationship. Going ahead, our first preference will be Aisin for all our new projects, depending on their torque values,” he added.

The carmaker will jointly work with Aisin to adapt the gearbox for longitudinal engine applications in the rear-wheel-drive Scorpio, Mahindra engineers told Autocar India. The transmission being used in the front-wheel-drive XUV500 automatic has been developed for a transverse engine layout.

Earlier this year, Autocar India exclusively reported that Mahindra is working towards bringing the new Aisin six-speed automatic gearbox for the new Scorpio in 2016. However, the development could get a bit delayed as Mahindra still has some inventory of the DSI transmission left amid trickling sales of the Scorpio automatic at around 70-80 units a month. Mahindra sold a total of 4,719 units of the Scorpio in October and has averaged around 4,100 units for the Apr-Oct period.
