KTM 390 Adventure vs Himalayan vs Versys-X 300 vs G 310 GS vs XPulse - Quick Comparison

After years of rumours and speculations, KTM has finally announced that the 390 Adventure is indeed coming to India next year. While the Austrian bikemaker has become the mainstay of the over-200cc performance motorcycle space in the Indian market, with the Adventure it will have to ward off competition from other low(ish) capacity adventure tourer motorcycles here. This includes the Royal Enfield Himalayan, the Kawasaki Versys-X 300, the upcoming BMW G 310 GS and the Hero XPulse. We take a look at each of them and see how they are expected to fare against the entry-level Austrian ADV.

Starting things with the bike in focus first, the KTM 390 Adventure is expected to carry over the same motor that powers the 390 Duke. This includes a 373.2cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine which delivers 43.5PS of power and 37Nm of torque. However, we expect the ADV to feature a slightly different state of tune for better off-road performance. We also expect KTM to pack the motorcycle to the brim with various electronic aids such as different riding modes, fully digital instrument console and multiple ABS modes - the latter two of which are already on the current 390 Duke.

And while we believe that the original 390 Adventure from KTM will be in its full off-road focused form, with spoke rims and higher ground clearance, there’s the possibility of getting a more road-biased version with alloy wheels along with that as well.

Now, let’s move on to the competition.

Kawasaki To Organise Track Day At Kari Motor Speedway

Kawasaki owners will get a chance to hone their skills with help from RACR instructors

Planning a track day anytime soon? If you own a Kawasaki, the Japanese bike maker might just have the perfect event lined up for you. Kawasaki has announced that it will be conducting a ‘Kaze Race Track Day' (Kaze means wind in Japanese) on 14 July, 2018 at the Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore.

Organised in association with RACR (Rajni Academy of Competitive Racing), the track day is being conducted to help riders hone their skills on and off the racetrack. Kawasaki also plans on training riders on bigger and more challenging tracks such as the Buddh International Circuit (BIC) in Greater Noida and Madras Motor Race Track (MMRT) in Chennai.

Before you book your slot, it is important to note that the event is exclusive to owners of Kawasaki motorcycles that have a displacement of 900cc or above, like the Ninja 1000, Ninja ZX-10R, Z900, etc. The participation fee has been pegged at Rs 7,900.

Kawasaki had organised a similar event at the BIC two years ago. Kawasaki states that it’ll continue to organise similar events in the future as well.

Yamaha India arranges pre-monsoon check-up camps

With the monsoon just arriving in parts of the country, Yamaha has organised pre-monsoon check-up camps at its dealerships across India. The check-up camps will be held in June 2018 and conducted free of cost. The only prerequisite: owners can avail this service only if their Yamaha model is still on sale and not discontinued.

The Japanese motorcycle brand will conduct what it calls a ‘14 essential points-based’ vehicle check-up at a dealership near you. We are still awaiting details on what these points constitute.

Ravinder Singh, senior vice president, strategy and planning, Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt. Ltd. said, “As a responsible two-wheeler manufacturer, the company is committed to ensure high standards of safety. While Yamaha vehicles are equipped with minimal risk features, the check-up camps will help to further enhance the overall riding experience during rainy season."

Yamaha’s most popular offering this year has been the FZ range, averaging sales at around 17,000 units per month. Close at its heels is the Fascino, with average sales of around 14,000 units per month. Yamaha is also offering a seasonal discount on helmets, accessories and labour charges.

Bentley Brings 'Sensible' Bentayga V8 To India

ABS version costs around Rs 8,000 more than the standard bike

Chennai-based manufacturer Royal Enfield has silently introduced a rear disc brake for the Classic 350 Redditch edition. Priced at Rs 1.47 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai), it costs around Rs 8,000 more than the standard drum brake version. The Redditch edition is offered in three colour options - red, green and blue.

The 240mm rear and single piston calliper have been borrowed from the Gunmetal Grey Classic 350 and the Classic 500 models. It already comes equipped with a 280mm front disc brake as standard. Other than the addition of a rear disc, the motorcycle remains unchanged.

Powering the Royal Enfield Classic 350 Redditch is the same 346cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine, which produces 20PS of power and 28Nm of torque, paired to a 5-speed gearbox.

While this is a step in the right direction, we do wish Royal Enfield offered ABS at least as an optional accessory, considering the UK-spec bike comes with the safety net. However, with ABS set to become mandatory for motorcycles that displace more than 125cc from April 2019, expect to see at least a single-channel unit in the coming months.

That said, Royal Enfield will also be launching the Interceptor 650 and the Continental GT 650 in India soon, and we expect both twin-cylinder motorcycles to offer ABS as standard.
